Iterations is the (mostly) unedited documentation of a single session of duets of Carlos Santistevan (upright bass) and Tara Khozein (voice) recorded on Friday June 25th, 2021, in Santa Fe, NM. We made these sounds, thinking very often of our common friend and mentor, J.A. "Dino" Deane, who took his final exit shortly after we made this recording. 2 humans, 2 microphones, 1 instrument, 1 voice. 16 Iterations.

Biographies
----------------------------

Tara Khozein is an Iranian-American singer, improviser, teacher, and composer with a background in classical singing and physical theater. Her work exploring intersections of concert music and physical theater has taken her through the US, Germany, France, Italy, Hungary, Austria, and Finland. In New Mexico, where she lived for 7 years, she worked with Theater Grottesco, Meow Wolf, the Santa Fe Opera, SITE Santa Fe, Chatter NM, and Santa Fe Performing Arts among others. Her current projects include a new film by Godfrey Reggio and Philip Glass (NYC), an opera by composer Samu Gryllus (HU), sound design for STEREO AKT (NYC/HU), Budapest Improvisers Orchestra (HU), improvisation duos with Rhonda Taylor and Carlos Santistevan (NM), a music-theater piece with Les Compagnons Butineurs (FR), and her solo project for theatrical voice and objects. Tara is based out of Budapest, Hungary.

Carlos Santistevan is a bassist, sound engineer and organizer. Since 2001 he has helped establish an oasis of creative music in the high desert southwest as the director of High Mayhem Emerging Arts collective based out of Santa Fe, NM. He creates soundscapes and spontaneous compositions from the extremes of acoustic and electronic music. Early influences of punk and free jazz have led him to develop a unique approach to music and improvisation. He has performed at the High Zero Festival, The Stone, Ende Tymes Festival, SITE Santa Fe, Outsound Creative Music Summit, The Olympia Experimental Music Festival, The Empty Bottle, The Outpost, High Mayhem Festival and more. He regularly collaborates with artists such as JA Dino Deane, Laura Ortman, Marshall Trammell, Chris Jonas, Thollem McDonas, Tatsuya Nakatani, Raven Chacon and others. Carlos is a seasoned improvisor and is/was a member of diverse ensembles such as: In Defense of Memory, Chacon/Nakatani/Santistevan Trio, iNK oN pAPER, Out of Context, The Late Severa Wires, Black Iron Trio, Taiji Pole, and others. His music has been released on Other Minds Records, High Mayhem, SickSickSick Records, Unsilent Desert Press, Xerx and more….
